Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete American average was over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and the network’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
