This Creepy Thriller

Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well without requiring a continuation. Taking place in 1978 Denver, a series of kidnappings has rendered the local kids frightened. After Finney is taken by the villain and held captive in a basement, he fears a fatal end. However, the old telephone mounted nearby continues to ring, with ghostly voices offering help, and the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen could save him. An effective horror. October 11th, 10.50pm, Film4

This Dramatic Portrait

In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for Mammon in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic of the disgraced TV preacher and her felon spouse. Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who declares initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple begin monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of poor styling, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, however Jessica Chastain achieves to show the character in a likable light. October 14th, late night, on Film4
